The Research and Advocacy Centre for Environment (RACE) a juvenile institution established in February, 28, 2011 (Registration No. 7824 under West Bengal Act XXVI of 1961) as a Centre of Excellence to safeguard the environment with committed intellectuals, Senior and Young professionals and common people all around the world. RACE is committed to ensuring that due admiration is given to the role of conservation of the environment and endorsement of sustainable development.

Introduction
Its mission is to provide scientific and technical support to the grass root institution and community for the fortification of the environment. RACE carries out research to understand the complex interactions between human activity and the physical environment, and how to manage strategic resources (water, land, forests, food, livelihoods, etc.) in a more sustainable manner. Together with other institutes, the RACE provides the scientific basis for the conception, development, implementation and evaluation of Resource Potentiality that promote the greening of India and the global sustainable management of natural resources. It also works in partnership with other institutions to support the strategic priorities of the community. Our aims also encourage and educate next generation of professionals and scientific leadership committed to the health of the environment.
A healthy environment is one of the foundation stone of the RACE model of sustainable development. Moreover, our natural and cultural heritage defines our identity and thus its preservation for present and future generations is one of our utmost responsibilities. Our programmes focus on critical environmental challenges including biodiversity and conservation, climate change, air and water quality, energy, soil and water resources, rural and urban sustainability and sustainability of society. Our focal point is on research and accomplishment on conservation of nature, management of natural resources, and sustainable development. RACE is abreast of wide-ranging concerns regarding environmental conservation and protection from ozone depletion, climate change, integrated environmental strategies to clean development mechanisms. It endeavors to create awareness among communities, civil societies, Government Organizations, NGOs and other stakeholders. It strives to achieve poverty alleviation through employment generation, human development and sustainable environment management.
